12th VIVO Conference 2021 dedicated to the memory of Graham Triggs

Graham Triggs passed away on May 25th 2021. With Graham, we lost an outstanding member of the VIVO Community. He was a VIVO Committer for many years, a skilled software developer, and as an outspoken open-source advocate. A memorial note will be held during the conference to give all who knew and appreciated him an opportunity to remember him. Please see the conference program for details. We invite all those who will miss Graham - from the VIVO Community and beyond - to join. The memorial note will be held by Michael Conlon.

Then on Friday 6:40 PM, we will leave the conference room open to gather together and remember Graham. Bring your favorite stories of Graham, and a beer, preferably an IPA.

We are extending the deadline for submissions to the VIVO Conference 2021. The new deadline is May 17th. Please submit your proposals via OpenReview. The proposal should be submitted as an abstract of 150 - 350 words.

VIVO 2021: Another keynote speaker confirmed!

We are honoured to announce our second keynote speaker, Paolo Manghi. Paolo is a (PhD) Researcher in computer science at Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell’Informazione (ISTI) of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), in Pisa, Italy. His research areas of interest are today data e-infrastructures for science and scholarly communication infrastructures, with a focus on technologies supporting open science publishing within and across different disciplines, i.e. computational reproducibility and transparent evaluation of science. He is the CTO of the OpenAIRE infrastructure, involved in coordination and research in the H2020 projects OpenAIRE-Connect, OpenAIRE-Advance, OpenAIRE2020.

VIVO 2021: Conference updates

We are proud to announce Ludo Waltman as one of the keynote speakers at VIVO 2021. He is professor of Quantitative Science Studies and deputy director at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University. Ludo leads the Quantitative Science Studies (QSS) research group at CWTS. The QSS group does research in the fields of bibliometrics and scientometrics, with a special emphasis on applications in research management and science policy. Together with his colleague Nees Jan van Eck, Ludo has developed two software tools for the analysis and visualization of bibliometric networks: VOSviewer and CitNetExplorer. Ludo is coordinator of the CWTS Leiden Ranking, a bibliometric ranking of major universities worldwide. In addition, Ludo serves as Editor-in-Chief of Quantitative Science Studies.

VIVO 2021 Call for Proposals is now open!

Present your work and ideas at VIVO 2021

Do you help make scholarly data open, found, and consumed? Do you have fresh ideas or new work you want to share with us? We’d love to hear from you! The VIVO conference covers a broad range of topics surrounding research information systems.

As last year, VIVO 2021 will be an online, virtual conference. We encourage submissions from people who are new to the VIVO community, and formats that work well online.

Possible formats

We are planning two session lengths:

presentations (20 minutes)
lightning talks (6 minutes)

Your presentation or lightning talk may take the form of a demonstration (screen share in Zoom), a panel discussion, an interview, a virtual poster (single slide), a brainstorming session, an interactive survey session, or other. The lightning talk can be seen as a replacement for the poster session that will not take part this year. If you would have submitted a poster, please consider submitting your idea as a lightning talk.

Proposal and review process

Before May 7, 2021: Share your proposal through OpenReview, where it will be publicly visible. The proposal should be submitted as an abstract of 150 - 350 words.
Share the OpenReview link of your proposal on social media and your networks, and invite people to comment and engage.
Keep an eye on the interactions, and reply when meaningful.
Between date of submission and May 19: Assigned reviewers post reviews; they become visible immediately and you can react to them.
On May 21: You are notified about acceptance.
Until May 28 the VIVO Conference task force members decide on the final program. The program will be made available quickly on the conference website.

Archiving and DOI

The VIVO conference requires that your work be publicly available from a repository of your choice. Your repository must assign your work a DOI and must make your work open and freely available to all. We recommend your work be licensed using a Creative Commons license. Repositories that provide that will allow you to satisfy these requirements include figshare and Zenodo.

Save the date! for the 11th annual VIVO conference!

Dear VIVO community,

We are happy to announce that the 12th VIVO conference will be held online from June 23 to 25, 2021.

Due to the pandemic situation, the VIVO Project is organizing a free, virtual event and we’ll be inviting everyone in the global VIVO community to participate.

More details are coming soon, and the VIVO conference website will be updated with information in the coming days.
